Our Peace Bridge Silver Jewellery is inspired by the famous Peace Bridge in Derry / Londonderry.
This bridge jewellery is a delicate piece of silver jewellery and took a lot of design work as it has some very fine points.
As you walk across the Peace Bridge above the sprawling River Foyle, you know you are standing on a physical manifestation of reconciliation, connecting people in a city once divided by conflict.
As white as a dove, it heralds a new dawn, a place where east meets west, Protestant meets Catholic, unionist meets nationalist, spanning the banks of the river and linking the ‘Cityside and Waterside’ of Derry/Londonderry.
Designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects in London and funded to the tune of £14m, the elegant bridge has two structural arms heading in opposite directions, symbolising the unification of the ‘town we love so well’, united in a symbolic handshake across the river.
Opened in 2011, this 235 metre long, four-metre wide curved footpath, track and cycleway stretches from the Guildhall in the city centre of Derry City to Ebrington Square and St Columb’s Park on the far side of the river. A bridge to a new future, it connects newly regenerated public amenities which are now enjoyed by everyone, no matter where they are from.
