Our Rise Belfast Jewellery collection currently consists of silver necklaces and smaller earrings.
Whether you drive around it, underneath it or see it from a window or a more impressive vantage point such as Cavehill or the Black or Divis Mountains - the 'Rise' landmark dominates at the Broadway interchange on the M1 between Belfast and Dublin.
The result of a public art competition, 40 designs were originally submitted and Wolfgang Buttress’ spherical design won and was built in 2011. ‘Rise’ represents a new sun coming over the horizon, to celebrate a new chapter in the history of Belfast.
Like many Irish landmarks, it has probably become best known because of its affectionate nicknames - variously known as the ‘Balls on the Falls’ and ‘the Westicles’ due to its close proximity to the west of the city and of course, the Westlink section of the motorway. The sculptor held creative workshops with community groups from the Donegall Road and St James' areas of Belfast, asking for their input on the project.
The Rise also has a place in many people's memories due to its closeness to some of Belfast's hospitals.
